Which Parrot?

Which parrot is best?  This is a question we are asked a lot, and there is no simple answer.

The best advice is to do some research first, don't ever buy a parrot on impulse.  Look around and decide which species you can handle.  How much space have you got?  How much time have you got to spend with your bird?  Do you want a pet or aviary birds?

Who else is in the household? Have you any other pets? Have you kept birds before? What about noise and neighbours?  Remember most Amazons and Macaws are much noisier than African Greys.

Be wary of birds that appear to be too cheap.  Always ask if they are English bred, a closed ring is a good guide to this, and avoid the seller who tells you a bird will soon "tame down".
